Adults at Risk Policy

Safeguarding isn't only about children.

OrganisationPeterborough & District Angling Association Last reviewedAugust 2026 Next reviewAugust 2027

1. Who this covers

An adult at risk is anyone 18 or over who may be less able to protect themselves from harm or exploitation because of disability, illness, age or circumstance, in line with the Care Act 2014. Angling attracts people at every stage of life, including people fishing through recovery, bereavement or ill health, and the club's duty of care extends to them.

2. Our commitments

  • Adults at risk taking part in club activities are treated with respect, and given the support they need to fish safely without their independence being taken from them.
  • Concerns about the welfare of an adult at risk are taken as seriously as concerns about a child.
  • We stay alert to financial exploitation, including pressure over subscriptions, tackle or money on the bank.

3. Raising a concern

Concerns go to the Head of Participation at participation@fishinginpeterborough.co.uk or the Chairman at chairman@fishinginpeterborough.co.uk. Where an adult is at immediate risk, call 999. Where appropriate the club will refer concerns to Peterborough adult social care and cooperate with any investigation.

4. Consent and capacity

Adults have the right to make their own decisions, including ones we might not make ourselves. We only act without a person's consent where they lack capacity to make the decision in question or where others are at risk, and then only as far as necessary.
