Keeping Children Safe
The short version for parents.
Juniors fish free at P&DAA because we want your kids on the bank. Here's what we do to keep them safe, in plain terms.
Who's responsible
Our Head of Participation is the club's safeguarding contact. Anything that worries you, however small it feels, goes to participation@fishinginpeterborough.co.uk, or to the Chairman at chairman@fishinginpeterborough.co.uk if you'd rather. You will never be made to feel awkward for raising something.
Who coaches your child
Junior coaching connected to P&DAA is delivered by School Of Fish. Every one of their coaches holds a recognised coaching qualification, first aid certification and an enhanced DBS check. Club volunteers in roles with regular unsupervised access to children are DBS checked too.
How sessions run
Coaching happens in the open, in sight of parents and the rest of the group. Nobody takes your child off alone. Any physical help, guiding a cast, holding a fish, is asked for first. Photos of juniors aren't taken on personal phones, and adults from the club won't contact your child on social media.
On the water
Water is the obvious risk in this sport. Juniors should be accompanied by an adult on our waters, life jackets are sensible for younger children near deep or flowing water, and our health and safety policy covers the rest.
If something's wrong
Tell us. If a child is in immediate danger, 999 first, then us. If you'd rather speak to someone outside the club entirely, the NSPCC helpline is 0808 800 5000.
