River Nene

Alwalton

There is plenty of water to explore around here and this fishery is another barbel hotspot. In the summer months, like at Castor, the barbel will inhabit the backwaters and a stealthy approach will allow you to observe them in shallower areas as they move across the gravel bottom. Come the autumn and winter they will drift back into the deeper slower waters of the main river. Chub will also be found where the barbel are.

Silver fish will be found everywhere and the main sluice pool always sees some pike activity at some point in the day.

Livestock may be grazed on the meadow at various times of the year.

Getting there

Mill Lane, Castor PE5 7BT.

Parking available at the roadside just before you reach field gates on either side. Do not park beyond here. Continue on foot down Mill Lane and turn to the left by the mill entrance and you will see a pedestrian gate.
