Volunteer Policy
Supporting the people who give their time.
1. The club runs on volunteers
Almost nothing at P&DAA is paid work. Bailiffs, coaches, match organisers, committee members and work parties keep sixteen venues fishable, and this policy is about doing right by them.
2. Taking on a role
Volunteer roles come with a clear description of what's involved and who to go to for help. Roles with regular unsupervised access to children require an enhanced DBS check, and bailiffs are issued club ID and briefed on their responsibilities before their first patrol. Coaching qualifications for junior work run through School Of Fish.
3. What volunteers can expect
- Volunteer expenses agreed in advance are reimbursed, nobody should be out of pocket for giving their time.
- Appropriate insurance cover is maintained for organised club activities.
- Support from the relevant department head, and the club's backing when doing the job properly gets difficult, which for bailiffs it sometimes does.
- The right to step back. Life changes, and a volunteer who needs to stand down will be thanked, not guilt-tripped.
4. Conduct
Volunteers act as the club when they're on duty, and the standards in our safeguarding, equality and health and safety policies apply to them in full. Concerns about a volunteer's conduct are handled under the complaints and disciplinary policy.
