About us – Our Story
The P&DAA is an amazing success story since its foundation in 1875
Controlling around 12 miles of the River Nene and a long stretch of the River Welland, we provide excellent sport for anglers of all types. When the closed season arrives on the river, the lakes at Ferry Meadows offer great fishing throughout the year.
Fantastic barbel fishing makes P&DAA stretches of the river a destination for big fish hunters. Fish over 18lb have been caught, including the Nene record fish. Double figure specimens are common. Big chub are a late season attraction, with fish over 7lb reported every year.
Bream fans head for the mighty Ferry Meadows, a venue that holds double figure fish and sees matches won with unbelievable weights On the match fishing front, P&DAA has hosted several national championships, RiverFest events, winter leagues and countless small club matches.
Over the years the Association has produced a world champion, two national champions, two England internationals, a junior national champion and a ladies national champion, along with team successes at every level. Currently it is working hard to introduce a comprehensive coaching scheme to encourage newcomers and juniors who are new to the sport From the river’s wide lower stretches such as the roadside North Bank to the more natural upstream sections, the choice of venues is second to none.
